How is this different from the regular multiplication table (Table of 2, 3, 4, and so on)?

I noticed that whenever multiplication of two random numbers were asked, if the mind doesn’t know the answer straight away then it jumps to the nearest calculation (from the regular multiplication table) and then it goes step-by-step to arrive at the answer. So instead of memorising each table, if we could memorise “specific” direct calculations then the time taken to think and answer becomes shorter.
